Roanoke Volleyball Sweeps Guilford, 3-0 in ODAC-Opener
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke defeated Guilford, in three sets with scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 26-24 in its ODAC-opener this evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons improved to 7-4, 1-0 in the ODAC while the Quakers dropped to 5-7, 0-2 in the conference.
The Maroons were led by freshman setter Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA), who had 28 assists on the evening. Caitlyn Long (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)finished with 20 digs at the libero position while fellow senior Lynsey Ferris (Roanoke, VA, Northside)totaled five blocks (3 solo).
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)led Roanoke in kills with 10, along with eight kills and two aces. Fellow Cave Spring product Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)had six kills and six digs as both Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook)(7 kills) and Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance)(five kills) combined for 12 kills on the night.
The women will return to action this weekend in Lynchburg, Va. as the Maroons will play both Lynchburg and Gallaudet (DC) in a tri-match at Turner Gym on the campus of Lynchburg College. Game times are at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
