Roanoke Tops Hollins, 3-1 in Volleyball Action
ROANOKE, Va. --- In the first meeting since 2004, Roanoke defeated Hollins, 3-1 on the road Tuesday evening. The scores were 20-25, 25-14, 25-16 and 29-27. The Maroons, who won their seventh-straight match, improved to 7-2. Hollins dropped to 1-3.
The Maroons, who won their 14th-straight against their cross-town opponent, were led by Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) with a career-best 21 kills and 16 digs. Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) had six kills in addition to a career-high 22 digs on the night. Emily Martin added 21 digs while Kayla Paxton finished with five kills and 11 digs.
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt), who is playing volleyball for the first time in five years, totaled six kills with four total blocks (one solo). She currently leads the squad in block solos, second in total blocks and third in kills this season.
Roanoke improved its series record against Hollins to 28-11, winning 27 of the last 28 meetings.
The women return to action Thursday, Sept. 16 as they host Sweet Briar in their home and ODAC-opener. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
