Roanoke Sweeps Sweet Briar at Home in ODAC-Opener
SALEM, Va--- Roanoke defeated Sweet Briar, 3-0 in their ODAC-opener Thursday at the Bast Center. The scores were 25-13, 25-17, and 25-18. The Maroons won their eighth consecutive match to improve to 8-2, 1-0, while the Vixens fell to 1-8, 0-3 on the year.
Hosting their first match of the year, Roanoke got off to a quick start in defeating Sweet Briar for the 22nd straight time. The ladies are now 30-4 all-time against the Vixens.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) paced the Maroons with 10 kills and Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) chipped in with six. Leah Horan (Richmond, VA, Freeman) and Kayla Paxton (Salem, VA, Salem) registered six digs apiece, picking up the slack for injured libero Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt). Bren Wilberger (Richmond, VA, Steward ) added seven assists and six digs while Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) contributed 23 assists on the night.
The women will travel to Randolph-Macon Saturday, Sept. 18th for their first ODAC contest on the road. The match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
