BUENA VISTA, Va--- Roanoke defeated Southern Virginia, 3-0 on the road Thursday evening. The scores were 25-5, 25-13, 27-25. The Maroons improved to 11-3, while the Knights fell to 6-10 on the year.
It was Roanoke's first victory against SVU in the last three meetings. The Knights hold a slim 7-10 lead in the all-time series.
Roanoke jumped out to an early lead, using 15 consecutive points to cruise to an easy win in the first set.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) led the Maroons with 13 kills and three service aces. Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) added eight kills and finished with no errors on the match. Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt) finished with 10 digs and Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) chipped in with 23 assists and six digs.
The women return to action as they host two games over Family Weekend, Oct. 1-2. The Maroons take on cross-town rival Hollins, Friday at 6:30 p.m. and ODAC-foe, Lynchburg Saturday at noon.
