SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke rallied from two sets behind to defeat Lynchburg, 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Bast Center. The scores were 16-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-22, and 15-13. The Maroons improved to 13-3, 4-1 in the ODAC, while the Hornets fell to 9-7, 3-1 in conference play.
Down two sets to none, Roanoke mounted a furious comeback in front a large crowd brought on by Parents Weekend, to hand Lynchburg their first conference loss of the season. The host team is now riding a five game win-streak and is one of five teams in the ODAC with only one loss in conference on the year.
Maggie Wagner (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) paced the Maroons with 12 kills, 15 digs, and two serving aces. She has now recorded 10 or more kills in five-straight matches. Her 15 digs moved the local product into fifth all-time at Roanoke with 872, passing Susan Brown '95.
Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) turned in another stellar performance, finishing with 10 kills and 18 digs. Emily Martin (Daleville, VA, Lord Botetourt) chipped in with 15 digs and three service aces while Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) recorded 18 assists and 12 digs. Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA, Fort Defiance) added eight kills on the match.
The women will return to action Tuesday, October 5th as they travel to Bridgewater College. The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
