Roanoke Comes up Short against Meredith, 3-2
SALEM --- Roanoke fell to Meredith, 3-2 in non-conference action Thursday evening at the Bast Center. The Maroons fall to 3-13 while the Avenging Angels improve to 14-6 on the season.

The Maroons, who drop their second-straight match in five sets, lost with scores of 25-27, 26-24, 22-25, 25-19 and 10-15. Roanoke is now 2-4 in five-set matches this season. Meredith snapped a 13-match series skid against the Maroons.

Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) led Roanoke with 12 kills along with nine digs. Mackenzie Allen (Zuni, VA, Windsor High School) had 11 digs while Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) finished with 37 assists and 10 digs. Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) added nine kills and seven digs as Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) had nine kills and three block solos.

Cori Spade led all players with 24 kills in addition to 11 digs to pace Meredith to break a two-game skid. Kara Baughman and Clarke Glendenning combined for 38 assists while Marybeth Finegan totaled 13 digs. The Avenging Angels have won five of their last seven matches. MC is one win shy of matching the entire 2010 win total.

The women will host the 2011 Maroon Classic this weekend, Oct. 7-8 at the Bast Center. They will host Methodist (13-4) at 1 p.m. and Southern Virginia (10-6) at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Maroons are 0-2 against SVU this season. On Saturday, the Maroons will play against Ferrum (0-17) at 10 a.m. and Averett (14-6) at 4 p.m. Roanoke fell to the Cougars, 3-0 in the Averett Invitational on Sept. 3.
