Hollins raced out to an early lead in the first set. With Hollins leading 20-15, Roanoke mounted a rally and outscored the home team 10-2 to take the first set by the score of 25-22. The second set saw the home team take the lead and again the Maroons stormed back to take the set by the same 25-22 score as the first. The Maroons completed the match with a 25-21 score.
Samantha Klostermann (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) helped to led Roanoke to a 44-21 kill advantage by recording a match high 12 kills. Sarah Long (Midlothian, VA, Midlothian High School) added nine while Kelsey Largen (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) and Rachel Hawkins (Winchester, VA, Millbrook) each killed eight. Shannon Stone (Williamsburg, VA, Lafayette) had a match-high 36 assists on the night.
Mandi McDade led the Hollins attack with seven kills. Ally Reed added six kills and tied McDade with 19 digs. Jessie Deese handed out a team high 14 assists. Prior to the match, Hollins senior Simone Mendez was honored by her coaches, teammates, and fans.
The women will travel to Ferrum on Thursday and to Pennsylvania Oct. 28-29 to play in the Messiah Tournament to wrap-up the season.
