FERRUM - The Roanoke College volleyball team was victorious in non-conference action against Ferrum, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-23) on Thursday.

The Maroons advance to 8-7 on the season, while the Panthers now hold a mark of 1-5 in 2012. Roanoke is 41-17 all-time against Ferrum, and have not lost to the Panthers since 1997.

Roanoke led in the first set at 3-2, and carried that lead easily through the end of the set, winning 24-13. In the second set, The Maroons jumped out to multiple five point leads, their last at 12-7. It was at that point that Ferrum went on a 6-0 run and reclaimed the lead at 13-12. Roanoke pulled back ahead in the next two points, and rode a 13-6 run to take the second set 25-19

In the third set, the Maroons trailed for a considerable amount of time, as the Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Roanoke caught back up with Ferrum tying the game at 7-7. However, Ferrum went on a 14-5 run to lead the Maroons 21-13. Macey Tyree served the next 10 points to catch the Maroons back up and take a 23-21 lead. Rachel Stratton served the next two points for the Panthers, tying the game at 23-23. Roanoke took the final two points off a Panther error and a kill by Samantha Klosterman to win the third set 25-23.

Allison White led the Maroons in kills with nine, followed by Sarah Long who tallied eight. Shannon Stone continues to lead Roanoke in assists, capturing 18 in tonight's contest. Chalalin Giron topped the Maroons in digs with six, while Mackenzie Tyree and Alexandra Martin each notched five.

The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, September 25th as they travel to Staunton, Va. to face Mary Baldwin College. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
