Maroons Sting Wasps, 3-0 on Tuesday Night
SALEM – The Roanoke College volleyball team defeated the top squad in the ODAC, Emory & Henry, 3-0 on Tuesday Evening.  The Maroons rise in the ODAC leaderboard as they boast a 13-6 record with a 4-1 mark in ODAC play, while the Wasps have a record of 9-7, also with a 4-1 ODAC mark.
 
The Maroons handed the Wasps their first ODAC loss of the season, winning in just three sets (25-19; 25-18; 25-17).  Going into this contest, the two teams were tied with an all-time series record of 24-24, with Roanoke taking the one match advantage after tonight's contest.  This is the Maroons' first win over the Wasps since the 2010 season.
 
Roanoke build large leads over Emory & Henry in each of the three sets.  In the first set, Roanoke held a 4-5 point advantage starting at 13-8.  The Maroons would go on tow in five consecutive points later in the match on the serve of Macey Tyree to extend the lead to nine, 21-12.  Despite a brief Wasp rally, Roanoke took the first set, 25-19. 
 
In the second game, the Maroons built a strong 12-6 lead, after four points off of Mackenzie Tyree serves.  With the Maroons holding a 20-15 lead later in the set, Macey Tyree made three of the final five points of the set to give Roanoke the 25-18 win.
 
In the third set, the Maroons raced out to a 10-4 lead.  They would hold on to that advantage for the remainder of the set, including wining the final three points to take the third set 25-17. 
 
Samantha Klostermann led the Maroons in kills with 16, followed by Macey Tyree who tallied 11.  Mackenzie Tyree led all players in the match with 20 digs, followed by Klostermann with 11.  Alexandra Martin dished out a team high 20 assists, while Jessica Block handed out 17 of her own.
 
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 2nd as they host Mary Baldwin College in the Bast Center.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
