Roanoke Voted Fourth in Volleyball Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – Roanoke was tabbed fourth in the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Volleyball preseason poll, the league announced Friday afternoon.

Washington and Lee stood atop the leaderboard, receiving six first place votes and 115 points. Randolph-Macon was voted second with 109 points and three first place votes followed closely by Virginia Wesleyan in third with 108 points also with three first place votes. Roanoke took fourth with 87 points while Emory & Henry (72 points) and Shenandoah (67 points) took fifth and sixth, respectively. Lynchburg (66 points) finished seventh, Bridgewater (59 points) ended eighth, Randolph (45 points) was chosen ninth and Eastern Mennonite (26 points) was tabbed tenth. Guilford (25 points) and Hollins (13 points) rounded out the poll in eleventh and twelfth.

Roanoke finished the 2015 season with a 22-6 (8-3 ODAC) mark, recording the program's most successful season since 2008. The Maroons advanced to the ODAC semifinals after jumping out to a 16-0 start and remaining undefeated through the first six conference games.    

RC returns one second team All-ODAC selection, Jessica Block, for her senior campaign. As a setter, Block finished second in the ODAC with 866 assists and third with 55 aces last season.

The Maroons kick off the 2016 season Saturday, September 3 versus Randolph in the 22nd Annual Cougar Classic.
