The Lead : The Roanoke College Volleyball team opened the 2017 season by splitting a pair of matches at the Cougar Invitational  at Averett University on Friday,

How it Happened:

• The Maroons opened the day by dropping a 3-1 decision to ODAC rival Guilford.
• Kylah Blackmore led Maroons with 13 kills, while Alex Wolfe added seven kills of her own.
• Blackmore added 18 digs to record a double-double, while Ryan Hedgepeth had 17 stops as well.
• RC rebounded to take a 3-2 victory over William Peace in the nightcap.
• Christen Zammit directed the RC offense with 26 assists, while Emerson Kern dished out 21 helpers.
• Meagan Smith had 12 kills for the Maroons, Blackmore had nine and Wolfe added eight.
• Defensively, Hedgepeth racked up 30 digs, Olivia Earls had 16 and Zammit had 15.

Up Next: Roanoke will face Averett at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, then Randolph at 1:00 p.m.
