The Lead: Roanoke defeated Mary Baldwin in straight sets to open the Maroon Classic Friday night in Salem, Va.
How it Happened:
- The Maroons recorded 24 aces in the match, headed by Caitlin Sharkey and Emerson Kern who each tallied six.
- Roanoke hit .345 as a team led by Kylah Blackmore who has a match high six kills. Ryan Hedgpeth has six digs, while Emerson Kern had 10 assists.
- In set one, Roanoke used a 17-2 run to take control of the set, capped by an ace by Hedgpeth to make it a 20-3 game. Logan Graves recorded back-to-back kills to take the set 25-5.
- Sharkey pushed Roanoke out to a 7-0 lead in set two with six aces in the first seven points of the set. Kern closed the set with two consecutive aces to give RC a 2-0 advantage.
- In the final set, Roanoke took an early 7-1 lead capped by a kill from Blackmore. Later in the set, Kern served up four aces in a row to extend the lead to 16-4.

The Lead: Roanoke fell in straight sets to Piedmont in game two of the Maroon Classic Friday night.
How it Happened:
- Meagan Smith and Kylah Blackmore each had 10 kills for the Maroons. Ryan Hedgpeth tallied 20 digs while Christen Zammit had 16 assists followed by Emerson Kern with 13.
- Piedmont was led by Kaitlyn Loesel with 12 kills and 11 digs while Lainey Choiniere with 19 assists. Four different Lions had double-digit digs.
- Roanoke hit .151 as a team while the Lions hit .244 on the night.
