The Basics

Score: Roanoke 1 | Bob Jones 3 (20-25, 21-25, 25-13, 24-26)
Records: Roanoke 0-1 | Bob Jones 1-0
Location: Danville, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons would enjoy late leads in each of the first three sets, but late Bruin rallies and a hard fought fourth set would allow Bob Jones University to pick up the 3-1 win.

How it Happened:

  • After back-to-back errors (one serving and one attacking) by BJU, Roanoke enjoyed an 18-12 led in the opening set. The Bruins would score seven of the next eight and 13 of the final 15 points to take the set.
  • Looking to get even, Roanoke took a 19-18 edge off an Olivia Newman kill, but once again it was Bob Jones that would go on a run, winning seven of the final nine points.
  • Linsey Bailey would kill two in a row for a 10-5 lead in the third. Roanoke left little doubt, taking the set on a Parker Moody attack to get back in the match.
  • The fourth set would see the teams tied at 24-24, once again it was the Bruins that would rattled off two in a row to close out the Maroons, 3-1.
  • Bailey finish with 16 kills while Telia Harris added 12
  • Newman and Logan Pasley each handed out 10 assists and Tori Clineville led with 21 digs

Score: Roanoke 0 | Southern Virginia 3 (21-25, 20-25, 13-25)
Records: Roanoke 0-2 | Southern Virginia 1-1
Location: Danville, Va.

The Lead: After falling in their season debut, the Roanoke volleyball team had to jump right back on the court as they did battle with a Southern Virginia team that also came in looking for their first victory. The Knights used a 35-26 advantage at the net to control the match against a weary Maroons squad.

How it happened:

  • Roanoke scored the first point of the match but a 5-0 and 6-0 run by SVU allowed the Knights to pull away for the 1-0 advantage.
  • In the second frame, the Maroons were tied at 11-11 before Southern Virginia scored seven of the next eight points to take a 2-0 lead.
  • A 12-2 start to the third, and ultimately final, set by the Knights would put the match away and Roanoke to an 0-2 start.
  • Harris paced the offense with eight kills while Avery Wolff added 10 assists

Up next: The Maroons will once again face back-to-back matches tomorrow morning. After facing the host Cougars at 10am, Roanoke will wrap up the tournament with a match against William Peace at noon.
