The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced their 2022 Academic All State teams on Thursday morning. Six Maroons were honored for not only their athletic accomplishments, but for their academic success. Four of the six carry a 4.00 Grade Point Average (GPA), while the others sport a 3.974 and 3.966 gpa.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced their Academic All District team for volleyball on Thursday afternoon. Roanoke College Defensive Specialist/Libero Kennedy Clemmer was named Academic All District by the organization. The junior will now move to the nationwide voting for the Academic All American team.
The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced their 2021 All Conference Volleyball teams on Sunday afternoon. Roanoke College would place a pair of players on the trio of All-ODAC teams.
The Roanoke College volleyball teamed entered the postseason with a trip to Randolph-Macon in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Volleyball Tournament. The Maroons fell to Macon in five sets back in October and looked to pull off the upset of the ODAC’s second ranked team. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead, 2-0, before a Roanoke rally made it 2-1. However, Randolph-Macon took the fourth set to eliminate the Maroons from the tournament.
Friday night marked the end of the regular season for the Roanoke volleyball team as they traveled to Lynchburg to face Randolph College. The Maroons looked to end the season on a six-match win streak, including four consecutive in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Roanoke would finish the season on a 6-0 run heading into the ODAC tournament with a 3-0 sweep of the WildCats.
The Roanoke volleyball team traveled to North Carolina to face Greensboro College on Tuesday night. The Pride won earlier this season at the Maroon Classic, 3-0, as the Maroons went looking to even the season series. Greensboro won the opening set but the Maroons would seize control and win three consecutive sets to pick up the 3-1 win in the rematch.
In their final home match of the season, the Roanoke volleyball team played host to Shenandoah in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons took each of the first two sets and led late in the third. A Hornet rally extended the match into a fourth set. Trailing by one late in the set, a 5-0 run by RC allowed the Maroons to seize control and take the match, 3-1, over Shenandoah.
After a come from behind win last night in Guilford, Roanoke was back on the road for a non-conference match with Mary Baldwin. The Maroons committed just one attack error in the first set as they cruised to an early lead. After a 15-kill effort in the second and another 15 in the third, Roanoke secured the non-conference win over Mary Baldwin.
The Roanoke College volleyball team traveled to Greensboro to face Guilford College on Wednesday night. The Maroons took the first set but found themselves down, 2-1, heading into the fourth. A Roanoke win would set up a fifth set, the second five-setter in their past three matches. The Maroons took a 6-0 lead before a Guilford rally gave the Quakers a 12-11 advantage. Four straight by RC gave Roanoke the 3-2 ODAC win.
After hosting an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tri-match on Saturday, the Roanoke volleyball team made the short trip to Hollins for another ODAC matchup. The Maroons took the first two sets by identical scores, 25-11, before finding themselves in a close third-set. Roanoke would close out the match by taking the final two points for the 3-0 ODAC victory over Hollins.
As the volleyball season begins to wind down, the Maroons hosted an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tri-Match on Saturday morning. Roanoke would host Ferrum in the opener and the home crowd took a moment to honor the program’s four seniors prior to first serve with the Panthers. The Maroons raced out to an early lead and hold on to win the first set and go on to sweep the Panthers.
Roanoke played host to Emory & Henry for the first time since the Wasps made the jump to NCAA DII. The Maroons took the opener, 25-17, and held the lead late in the second set before an E&H rally tied the match at 1-1. Roanoke once again held a late edge, but another rally from the visitors would see Roanoke trail heading into the fourth set. Emory & Henry used that momentum to pull away in the frame for the 3-1, non-conference, win.
Roanoke traveled to Southern Virginia for a non-conference volleyball match on Monday night. It was a rematch of an earlier match that was won by the Knights, 3-2, in Salem. Southern Virginia took the opening set and carried that momentum to a, 3-0, sweep of the Maroons.
The Maroons welcomed Bridgewater to the Cregger Center on Wednesday night with Roanoke playing in front of the home fans for the first time since September 16th. The Maroons got off to a quick start taking the opener before the Eagles rallied to make it 1-1. The final two sets would be close, but each time it would be Bridgewater that would pick up the necessary points down the stretch for the 3-1 ODAC win.
For the fourth consecutive game, the Roanoke College volleyball team was on the road against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competition when they made the long trip east to face Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night. After falling down 2-0, the Maroons rallied to take the third set but the rally would fall short as the Marlins took the fourth, 25-23, and the match, 3-1.
The Roanoke volleyball team opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday when they traveled to W&L. On Saturday, the Maroons continued conference play with an ODAC tri-match against Lynchburg and Eastern Mennonite. Each of the first three sets were played extremely close, but the home-standing Hornets led 2-1. The fourth set seemed to be just like the others, however the Hornets used an 8-1 run to seize control on their way to the 3-1 win over RC.
Wednesday night marked the opening of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule for the Roanoke volleyball team. A trip to Lexington to face Washington and Lee would be on tap for a Maroon team coming off their third tournament of the season. The Generals raced out to an early lead, taking the first set 25-8, on their way to a 3-0 ODAC win over RC.
The Roanoke volleyball team took on Geneva (Pa.) in their first of two matches on the second day of the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic in Wooster, Ohio. Roanoke was dominant in the opening set, cruising to a 25-8 win. After splitting the next two sets, The Maroons broke open a close fourth frame and closed out the Golden Tornados, 3-1, to get Day Two off to a good start.
Roanoke College traveled to Ohio to compete in the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic volleyball tournament, hosted by the College of Wooster. The Maroons first opponent would be the Beavers of Bluffton University. Bluffton won a tightly contested first set before carrying that momentum to a 25-15, second set win. In the third, Roanoke held set point at 26-25, but three consecutive Beaver points would carry Bluffton to the 3-0 tournament opening win.
Roanoke College wasted little time in welcoming Southern Virginia to the Cregger Center on Thursday night as they took the first set, 25-16. However, SVU responded by taking the second and after the two teams split the next two frames, the match would head to a decisive fifth set. The Maroons led early but an 8-0 run would see Southern Virginia rally to take the match, 3-2.
After going 3-1 at the 2021 Maroon Classic, the Roanoke College volleyball team traveled to Pfeiffer for a match on Tuesday night. The Falcons took the first set and then with the score tied at 27-27, Pfeiffer was able to take the last two points for a 2-0 advantage. Roanoke took the third frame but fell, 22-25, in the fourth set.
Roanoke College looked to carry the momentum of a three-match win streak into the second, and final, day of the 2021 Maroon Classic when they faced NC Wesleyan in a rematch from a week ago. The Bishops bested the Maroons at the Cougar Classic and Roanoke looked to exact a bit of revenge at home. The two teams would trade winning the first four sets to setup a fifth, and deciding, set. With the score tied at 16-16, Roanoke recorded the final two points to complete the five-set win.
Roanoke College played host to the 2021 Maroon Classic on Friday. The Maroons would face Mary Baldwin in their opener. The first set was tied late, but three straight Roanoke points would give the Maroons the set and all the momentum. Roanoke would never look back, taking the next two sets on their way to a 3-0 victory.
The Maroons got day two of the 2021 Cougar Classic started with a match against Oglethorpe. The first two sets were identical scores of 25-22 with each team taking a set. The third set was tied late but a late run by Oglethorpe would give them the momentum as they went on to the 3-1 win.
Roanoke College traveled to Danville for the opening day of the 2021 Cougar Classic, hosted by Averett University. The Maroons kicked off the two-day event with a match against William Peace. Roanoke would see the Pacers use a late first set run to take the opener and with the momentum on their side, William Peace would take the match in straight sets.
The Maroons kicked off the 2021 volleyball season with a visit from Meredith College to the Cregger Center. The Maroons raced out to a 1-0 lead before seeing the visitors from Raleigh rattled off three consecutive set wins for the 3-1 victory.
The 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Volleyball Preseason Poll was released on Friday afternoon and Roanoke College comes in at sixth as voted on by the league's 12 coaches.
