The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced their 2022 Academic All State teams on Thursday morning. Six Maroons were honored for not only their athletic accomplishments, but for their academic success. Four of the six carry a 4.00 Grade Point Average (GPA), while the others sport a 3.974 and 3.966 gpa.
The Roanoke College men’s tennis team made the trip east to face Virginia Wesleyan in the Quarterfinal round of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Tennis Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to the unbalanced schedule it was the first meeting of the season between the Maroons and Marlins. Virginia Wesleyan would sweep the three doubles matches and once they had claimed wins at #5 and #6 singles, the Marlins had accumulated the necessary five points to advance in the tournament.
Sunday marked the final day of the regular season for the Roanoke men’s tennis team. The Maroons made the trip east to Farmville to face Hampden-Sydney in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. The Tigers would prove to be anything but hospitable hosts when the welcomed Roanoke by sweeping the doubles matches. The change over to singles did little to slow Hampden-Sydney as the home team took the matchup 9-0.
The Roanoke College women’s and men’s tennis teams played their final home matches of the 2022 season on Saturday. Roanoke played host to Randolph College at the Elizabeth Campus Tennis Complex. Both teams would hold early leads only to see the WildCats rally to take both matches 5-4.
The Roanoke men’s tennis team traveled to Lexington to face the 7-0 Generals in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Monday afternoon. Washington and Lee would sweep all nine matches to run their season mark to 8-0 and claim their 50th consecutive ODAC men’s tennis match.
The Roanoke College men’s and women’s tennis teams stepped out of conference on Friday with a trip to Charlotte (N.C.) for matches with Johnson & Wales. The Maroons overwhelmed the Wildcats picking up a pair of 9-0 wins.

The Hornets would tie the match by taking the #1 singles spot to set up a best of five for the match. Roanoke would win three of the final five singles matches to pick up the win in the old Dominion Athletic conference (ODAC) standings.
The Roanoke College men's and women's tennis teams hosted Bridgewater College at the Elizabeth Campus Tennis Center on a cold and windy, Friday afternoon. The Eagles would lead both matches after the doubles segment and went on to win a pair over the Maroons. The Bridgewater men defeated Roanoke 6-3 while the RC women fell to the Eagles 7-2.
The Roanoke College men's and women's tennis teams hosted Centre College on Monday afternoon. The Colonels swept both matches by identical 9-0 scores over the Maroons in non-conference play.
The Roanoke men traveled to Ashland for an afternoon match with Randolph-Macon. The Maroons would race out to a 2-1 advantage after the doubles matches. In singles play, the Yellow Jackets would take a 4-3 edge with just two matches left to finish. When RMC won at the #5 position, the Yellow Jackets had secured the win.
The Roanoke College women's tennis team hosted Guilford College on Friday afternoon. The Maroons would win their third consecutive match with 7-2 win over the Quakers, claiming their first win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play this season. On the men's side, the Quakers would add to their perfect ODAC mark with a 9-0 win over Roanoke.
