Tim Smith

Tim Smith enters his fourth year overall and first year as the Head Cross Country/Assistant Track and Field Coach at Roanoke College. A 2013 graduate, Coach Smith has served as the Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach, directing practices and strength workouts for the long distance events, for the past two years. A two-time NCAA qualifier for the Maroons (38th pace in the 8,000m, 24:50 in 2011), Smith was named the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the ODAC Runner of the Year, and First Team All-ODAC in 2011. He won the ODAC Cross Country Championship in 2011 and in April of 2012 set the school record in the men’s 10,000m with a time of 30:55, winning the Duke Invitational. In addition, Coach Smith was named to the ODAC/StellarOne Sportsmanship Team, the first Roanoke runner to earn a runner-up finish at the NCAA Div. III South/Southeast Regional Meet, and was named ODAC Runner of the Week four times, most ever by a RC runner in a single-season.

Smith earned his Master of Arts in Teaching from Randolph College and spent 5 years teaching in Special Education prior to returning to Roanoke College. While teaching at Salem High School, Smith served as the Cross Country and Track & Field coach. During his two years at Salem, Smith helped found the Champions Together Unified Track Team, serving as head coach of that program.
