2021 Roanoke College Spring Outdoor Spectator Policy

Fellow Maroons:

Many thanks for your interest in Roanoke College Athletics.  I know you have been anxious to hear our plans for spectators for our outdoor sports.

Yes, unfortunately, we’re still at the mercy of COVID.  In our efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus, we all must continue to utilize universal measures – washing our hands, monitoring our daily health, wearing face coverings in public, and maintaining social distance.

All activity on the campus of, or under the direction of Roanoke College, must be conducted with strict adherence to COVID protocol.  We will indeed allow a limited amount of Maroon Fans.  We will not, however, allow fans from visiting institutions.  At all of our venues, spectators will be be screened at the entrance point.  Our event staff will enforce the use of face coverings and social distancing.  Food and drink, including alcohol, will be prohibited.

Your compliance with our general and venue specific protocols is vital to our success.  We reserve the right to adjust our policy to insure a successful launching and/or continuation of our outdoor sport seasons.  Thanks in advance for understanding our efforts to keep our community safe.

The Commonwealth of Virginia limits outdoor events to no more than 250 people, or 30% of the stated capacity of any venue, whichever is less. In addition, large social gatherings (n>10) are prohibited per Roanoke College and Virginia Department of Health guidelines.

Spectators remain prohibited from our indoor sport events (basketball, swimming, volleyball, indoor track & field).

Events held at Kerr Stadium (capacity 1,000, we’ll allow a total of 250; men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, field hockey):

  • Roanoke College Athletics will allow up to two (2) family members per coaching staff member and student-athlete.
  • Students, faculty/staff (with valid ID) and alumni will then be permitted in the venue until attendance capacity is filled to 250 people.
  • Parents will sit in our family section, separate from our students.
  • Of course, family members may sit together in our family section, but there needs to be social distance between each family, and/or each individual spectator.
  • In the event there are clusters of COVID-19 on the athletic team, no spectators will be permitted.
  • Fans of visiting schools will NOT be permitted at Roanoke College athletics contests
  • Access to the Press Box will be restricted to authorized staff members.
  • Post-game, there will be a 30 minute cooling off period for student-athletes and coaches.  Since locker rooms are used sparingly, if at all, we need the immediate post game time to collect uniforms and equipment, in addition to our normal processing of the game with our athletes.
  • Once student-athletes are released, they’ll be free to meet with you, but it must be done so outside, and away from our facility.  Meeting them in one of our many parking lots is acceptable.
  • Pre-and post-game tailgates are prohibited.
  • Family members can provide food to the team post-game, however it must be pre-arranged with the coaching staff and meals must be pre-packaged in individual containers.
  • Family members may not enter the Cregger Center, or gather near the Cregger Center exits.
