Maroons Get Bats Moving Against Guilford, Win ODAC Contest 9-4
GREENSBORO, NC - The Roanoke College baseball team scored six runs in the third inning against Guilford College on Wednesday, leading to an eventual 9-4 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Maroons now have a record of 6-11; 2-7 ODAC, while the Quakers are 10-13, 4-3 ODAC.

After two innings of scoreless play to start out the contest, the Maroons got hot in the third inning. After Devin Cassity hit a single back to the pitcher, moving Danny Creel to second, Will Black picked up an RBI on an infield out that scored Creel on the play. Jacob Clifton came up as the next batter and hit an RBI single to center field, plating Cassity. With two runners on, Cam Cassady hit an RBI sacrifice fly ball to right field, allowing Jacob Clifton to cross the plate. Kevin Oakey came up next to hit a three run home run to right field, picking up three RBIs in the process, and giving Roanoke a 6-0 lead in the third inning.

The Quakers came back and scored one run in the bottom of the fourth as Grayson Tuttle hit a sacrifice fly ball, scoring Corey Wallace. In the bottom of the fifth, Guilford put up two more runs. Nathan Fulbright reached on an error, allowing Herc Ingles to score. Wallace came back up and hit an RBI single through the left side, scoring Fulbright. After five innings, Roanoke led 6-3.

The Maroons continued to pile on runs, starting again in the eighth inning. Will Black hit a sacrifice ffly to right field, plating Cassitty. In the ninth, Will Decker hit a solo home run to right field, while Cassity picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk as Oakey crossed the plate. The Quakers scored once more in the bottom of the ninth, but Roanoke's lead was too large, as the Maroons were victorious 9-4.

Roanoke was led in hitting by Jacob Clifton, who went 3-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Will Decker and Kevin Oakey each finished the game with two hits, and two runs scored. Oakey also led the team in RBIs with three. John Ruhlman was tabbed with the win, pitching six innings, giving up three runs and striking out seven. Austin Gregory picked up the save in three innings of work, only giving up one run.

The Quakers were led by Herc Ingels, who went 3-5 on the afternoon. John Macon Smith, Corey Wallace and Michael Whited each finished with two hits apiece. Nick Blackwood was tabbed with the loss, giving up four runs off four hits in 2.1 innings pitched.

The Maroons return to action on Thursday, March 26th as they take on Ferrumm College at Kiwanis Field. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
