The Basics
Score: Roanoke 0, Hampden-Sydney 4
Records: Roanoke 11-7 (4-2 ODAC) / Hampden-Sydney 15-7 (2-2 ODAC)
Location: Ty Cobb Ballpark - Hampden-Sydney, Va.
The Lead: Despite a strong pitching performance from Harrison Richards, Roanoke could only scratch across four hits on the afternoon losing 4-0.
How it Happened:
- Hampden-Sydney jumped on the board first in the first and second inning by pushing across one run in each inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
- The Tigers would score one more run in the sixth and eighth innings taking a 4-0 lead.
- In the top of the ninth, Eli Sumpter and Sean Guida started off the inning with back-to-back singles and a walk by Will Black would load the bases.
- Roanoke ran out of luck as Will Decker hit a line shot to the shortstop who grabbed it and threw it to second base to get the double play to kill the rally.
- Guida was 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and extended his hitting streak to 11. Clark Crutchfield went 1-for-3 with a double and Sumpter had the Maroons only other hit.
- Richards threw all 8.0 innings for RC giving up only three earned runs while striking out six.
- Reggie Johnson picked up his third win of the year for Hampden-Sydney throwing 8.2 innings.
