RC Drops Two to BC in Conference Opener

Game 1

The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 6 | Roanoke 3
Records:  Roanoke 14-4, 0-1 ODAC | Bridgewater 6-8, 1-0 ODAC 
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke committed five errors as Bridgewater took a 6-3 decision in game one.

How it Happened:

  • BC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Brandon Poole scored following a double from Kenner Berry. With two outs, Berry scored on a RC infield error before closing out the inning. 
  • Bridgewater added another run in the second off a double from Austin Batten making it 3-0 Eagles. 
  • After giving up a run in the seventh, BC scored its final pair of runs in the top of the eighth off an RC error and a single from Chris King for a 6-0 advantage. 
  • Roanoke cut the deficit to three in the bottom of the inning as Will Decker doubled scoring Collier DonaldDean Hermanson kept the inning going with a two-out RBI single to left field. Cody Shell drove in the final run of the game with a single to right field making it 6-3 BC.
  • Tristan Daywalt (1-3) earned the win allowing no runs and six hits in 6.0 innings of work, while Andrew Berry was credited with the save. Matthew Franklin (1-1) was tabbed with the loss after 3.0 innings allowing three runs and four hits. 
  • RC was led by Hermanson who went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Decker and Shell each added an RBI of their own. Four different Eagles recorded two hits for BC in game one.

The Lead: Bridgewater scored a single run in four separate innings and allowed only four hits en route to 4-0 win in game two. 

How it Happened:

  • After a scoreless first inning, Bridgewater's JT Creed drove in King with a single to centerfield to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles added one more in the top of the third as Kenner Berry plated Austin Batten with a single to left. 
  • In the sixth, BC recorded a trio of singles as Garrison Wright hit an RBI single to left field before Sal Trancucci replaced John Ruhlman on the mound for the final two outs of the inning. 
  • Sean Guida led off the sixth with an infield single but Roanoke was unable to push him across leaving it a 3-0 game.
  • The final run of the game came in the top of the eighth as Brandon Poole drove in a run for BC and the Eagles took a 4-0 lead.
  • Four different Maroons recorded hits in game two, while Ruhlman (1-1) was tabbed with the loss after 5.1 innings allowing 11 hits and three runs. 
  • Jordan Showalter (1-0) went 7.0 innings for the Eagles allowing no runs and four hits. King went 3-for-5 and four different Eagles drove in runs in the win.

Up Next: Monday's contest with Cortland State has been cancelled, the Maroons will return to action on Tuesday, March 14 in a 7 p.m. match-up with Southern Virginia.
