No. 20 Roanoke Earns Midweek ODAC Win at Guilford

The Lead: Three Roanoke pitchers combined to allow just five hits as the Maroons topped Guilford 3-1 in ODAC Baseball action on Wednesday.

How it Happened:

  • John Ruhlman started on the mound and went three innings. The southpaw surrendered four hits, did not allow a run and struck out two before giving way to Steven Loney (1-0).
  • Loney tossed three innings, did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out four. Sal Trancucci earned the save after going the final three innings and giving up just one run on one hit.
  • Roanoke jumped on the board in the first inning when Will Black singled to open the game. Black advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a ground out. A Collier Donald RBI groundout brought in Black to give RC a 1-0 lead.
  • The score stayed that way until the fifth inning when Dean Hermanson singled with one out and moved to second on a stolen base. Hermanson moved to third on a wild pitch then came into score following a Will Decker RBI single to make it 2-0 Maroons.
  • RC tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Sean Guida reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on a Donald single. Guida made it 3-0 when he came home on a double play groundout.
  • Guilford pushed across a run in the home half of the eighth inning to make it 3-1, but Trancucci retired the side in order in the ninth to preserve the Roanoke win.
  • Ty Walser (1-2) took the loss for Guilford after going six innings and giving up three runs on five hits.
