The Lead: Gerard DePhillips tossed a complete game as No. 1 Shenandoah earned a 3-1 win over No. 20 Roanoke to open the ODAC doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • DePhillips went the distance to improve to 5-0 on the season. He allowed one run on seven hits, struck out three and walked four.
  • SU got DePhillips a pair of runs to work with in the top of the first inning, loading the bases on three consecutive walks to start the inning. A Jake Loew fielder's choice brought in Tristan Barker to make it 1-0 Hornets then Nick Goode singled to plate Abel Arocho and make it 2-0.
  • In the SU second inning, Arocho singled with two outs and no one on base then came around to score on a Dan Cameron double to push the Hornet lead to 3-0.
  • The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth inning when Roanoke's Collier Donald walked to open the inning and would move to third on a Drew Mikula single. Donald then came home for RC's first run of the day following a sacrifice fly off the bat of Eli Sumpter.
  • Roanoke attempted to rally putting a pair of runners on base in both the seventh and ninth innings, but on each occasion DePhillips was able to work out of the jam to preserve the SU lead.
  • John Ruhlman was saddled with the loss for RC to drop his record to 1-2 on the season. The lefty went seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, while striking out five.
