The Lead: Roanoke scored 12 runs over the final four innings to knock off home standing Lynchburg 14-9 in midweek ODAC action on Wednesday.

How it Happened

  • Roanoke jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Scott Ellis singled to open the game and the next batter Sean Guida tripled to make it 1-0. Guida then made it 2-0 when he came home on a Collier Donald sacrifice fly.
  • LC got a run back in the home-half of the second inning to make it 2-1, then strung together three hits in the fifth inning to score three runs and move in front 4-2.
  • A Drew Mikula sacrifice fly in the Roanoke sixth inning scored Will Decker to make the score 4-3.
  • With the score 5-3 LC in the RC seventh inning, the Maroons loaded the bases with no outs. Guida walked to bring home Will Black who had doubled to open the inning. Donald followed with a triple to clear the bases and make it 7-5. Decker then drove in Donald to put RC in front 8-5.
  • A Luke Rodgers home run in the next half inning for LC cut the RC lead to 8-6. RC responded by loading the bases with one out in the top of the eighth inning. Guida delivered an RBI double that scored Eli Sumpter and Dean Hermanson to push the RC advantage to 10-6.
  • Later that same inning, a Donald sacrifice fly scored Ellis and Decker tripled to plate Guida and put Roanoke on top 12-6.
  • Lynchburg took advantage of two Roanoke errors and got an RBI triple from Will Hylton as LC scored three runs in the bottom half of the eighth to make it a 12-9 game.
  • RC tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning when Sumpter singled to score Hermanson and Joe Larimer.
  • Every Maroon position player who saw action got at least one hit, led by Decker and Craig Kiley with three each. Donald finished with five RBI, while Guida knocked in four. 
  • Sal Trancucci got the win in relief to improve his record to 5-0 on the season.
