Roanoke Drops 7-2 Decision to Guilford

The Lead: Guilford held Roanoke to three hits as the Maroons fell 7-2 to the Quakers Tuesday night in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • After giving up two runs in the third, Sam Watson singled to right field and Sean Guida scored from third on an Guilford error to make it 2-1 GC.
  • Roanoke tied it up in the fourth as Will Decker and Drew Mikula were both hit by a pitch in the first two at bats of the inning. With two outs, Decker stole third and reached home on an error from the catcher to make it a 2-2 game. 
  • Mitchell Stumpo sparked a four-run seventh inning for the Quakers with a two-out single to right field. Trevor Denton and Andrew Brann followed suit each with a RBI single and Brann went on to score on a passed ball to make it 5-2 GC. Logan Washle capped the inning with a double to left field, plating Brann for a 6-2 lead. The Quakers added a run in the eighth off a single from Rocco Wilcox securing the win.
  • Watson, Mikula and Dean Hermanson each recorded a hit for the Maroons. Five different Quakers recorded two hits in the contest headed by Denton with a game-high three RBI.
  • John Ruhlman took the loss giving up four runs off four hits in 3.2 innings. Denton earned the win in 6.0 innings of work allowing only two runs off two hits.
