The Lead: Three Roanoke pitchers combined to surrender just three hits as the Maroons downed Emory & Henry 3-0 Tuesday on the road. The victory also gave RC a school record 24th win of the season.
How it Happened
- John Ruhlman started for the Maroons and went the first five innings. The southpaw allowed just two hits and struck out three to improve to 2-5 on the season. Sal Trancucci came in and gave up just one hit in three innings of work, before Steven Loney closed the game out with a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save.
- Sean Guida walked to open the game and went to third on a one-out single off the bat of Dean Hermanson. Guida would score the only run RC would need when Will Decker followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
- Hermanson stole second and came around to score on a Craig Kiley RBI single that made it a 2-0 RC lead.
- The score stayed that way until the RC sixth inning when with two outs, Guida stole second and scored on a Collier Donald single down the left field line to give the Maroons a 3-0 lead.
- Decker, Kiley, Eli Sumpter and Scott Ellis all finished with two hits on the day for the Maroons who had 13 for the game.
- Zach Smith, Corbin Hockensmith and Josh Macek each had a hit for E&H in the loss. Chandler Kezele started on the mound for the Wasps and went seven innings as his record dropped to 1-1 on the season.
