The Lead: Lynchburg topped Roanoke 4-3 in ODAC Baseball action Wednesday night in Blacksburg, Va.
How it Happened:
- Will Hylton led off the game for LC and promptly homered to give the Hornets an early 1-0 lead.
- RC responded right away in the bottom of the first, getting a leadoff triple from Collier Donald and scored two batters later on an RBI groundout by Dean Hermanson to tie the game.
- In the Roanoke second inning, Craig Kiley and Drew Mikula singled to open the inning and each moved up a base following an Eli Sumpter sacrifice bunt. Will Black then singled to plate both runners and make it a 3-1 game.
- The score stayed that way until the LC fifth inning when Hylton struck again with a one-out solo homer to make the score 3-2 RC.
- The Hornets tied the game on an unearned run in the sixth inning then took the lead in the seventh inning when Dallas Johnson singled to open the inning and went to third on a Hylton single. Johnson came in to score on a double play to push LC in front 4-3.
- Lynchburg reliever Ryan Irby came out of the bullpen and gave up just two hits in 7.2 innings of work. He struck out four and retired 16 Maroons in a row at one point to improve his record to 2-3. Owen Grayson took the loss for RC, dropping to 0-1.
