The Lead: Eighth-seeded Roanoke defeated fourth-seeded Concordia University Chicago 10-3 in an elimination game Sunday afternoon in game nine of the Division lll Championships.
With the win, Roanoke advances to play No. 5 Washington & Jefferson at 5:30pm CDT/6:30pm EST Sunday evening in Appleton.
How it Happened:
- After giving up two runs in the first, Roanoke closed the gap to one as Drew Mikula hit a single to right center to score Dean Hermanson and make it a 2-1 game.
- Roanoke then used a six-run third inning to take a 7-2 lead sparked by an RBI walk from Will Decker. Hermanson kept the inning going with a double to left field plating Decker, Collier Donald and Sean Guida. Sam Watson followed suit with a RBI single before Will Black plated Watson for the final run of the inning.
- Concordia scored a run in the sixth to close the gap to 7-3 but RC responded with three more runs in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a two-run homer from Decker.
- Forrest Wagner (3-1) earned the win allowing only four hits and three runs in 7.0 innings of work. Cameron Eck went 2.0 innings for RC allowing only two hits.
- Keaton Conner (6-4) was tabbed with the loss, giving up six runs off five hits in 2.0 innings.
- Decker and Hermanson led the Maroons with three RBI and two hits each.
