The Lead: Greensboro used a four-run eighth inning to score an 11-7 win over Roanoke on Wednesday evening.
How it Happened:
- Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Maroons wild pitch before Roanoke was able to tie the game in the third inning when Jeb Byerley led off with a home run.
- Greensboro used a three-run fourth inning, highlight by RBI doubles by Brayden King and Michael Garvey Jr., to take a 4-1 lead.
- In the Roanoke fifth inning, Tyler De Meo and Byerley led off with back-to-back singles before a bunt from Mason Staz moved them to second and third.
- Gavin Kandrick was hit by a pitch to load the bases then Cale Agee singled to score De Meo. Will Merriken then followed with a single to plate Byerley and make it 4-3.
- Kandrick would score on a Greensboro error and Tyler Ferrell singled home Agee to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the Maroons.
- The Maroons lead was short lived as the Pride was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, following a single by DJ Lowry and a Roanoke error gave Greensboro a 7-5 lead.
- Roanoke rallied to tie the game in the eighth inning when De Meo was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second on a single by Byerley.
- Staz then singled to score De Meo to make it 7-6. Byerley would score later in the inning on a Agee RBI groundout to tie the game.
- Greensboro would score four runs on two hits and two Maroon errors in the decisive bottom of the eighth inning.
- Byerley had three hits for RC, while Staz, Merriken and Carter Plunkett each had two hits.
