The Lead: Roanoke College made the trip to North Carolina to face Pfeiffer on Wednesday evening. The Maroons took a 6-0 lead before a Falcon rally would make it a one-run game, 7-6. However, the home team would explode for eight runs in the bottom of the seventh and go on to win the game, 17-7.
Highlights:
- Will Smith walked, stole second, and scored on a Mason Staz base hit to get Roanoke on the board. Staz moved to third on a Conner Butler single and scored on a PK Cocolis fielder's choice.
- In the top of the third, Butler singled, Cocolis was hit by a pitch, and Jack Marshall walked to load the bases. Owen Lawn delivered a 2-run double leading to a 2-run two-bagger by Carson McCusker to push the RC advantage to 6-0.
- After the Falcons cut it to 6-5, Lawn sent a shot over the right center field fence to make it 7-5.
- Marshall led off the seventh with a double but was stranded on third base as RC could not increase their 7-6 advantage. In the bottom half of the frame, Pfeiffer would plate eight, taking the lead for the first time and go on for the 17-7 win.
- Lawn finished 2-3 with two runs, three RBI, and a HR. Butler was 3-4 and Staz went 2-5.
- Will Turner started for the Maroons and went 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, striking out a pair. Turner was relieved by Anthony Sullivan, one scoreless inning, before giving way to the bullpen.
Up next: Roanoke plays the first of four-consecutive days when they host North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
