The Lead: Roanoke traveled to Greensboro to face the Pride in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Maroons defeated Greensboro, in Salem, back on March 22nd, 5-4, and went looking for the season sweep. Roanoke found themselves down in the early innings, 5-1. Trailing 6-2 into the seventh, the Maroons rallied for three in the seventh and two in the eighth to complete the comeback win over the Pride, 7-6.
Highlights:
- Down 2-0, Corey Coogan singled and stole second before advancing 90-feet on a wild pitch. Coogan would score on a second wild pitch to make it 2-1. However, Greensboro added three in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-1 game.
- In the sixth, Jacob Bonzon was hit by a pitch and advanced on a Conner Butler base hit. After a double steal, Bonzon crossed the plate on a Nathan Keough fielder's choice. The Pride would answer in the bottom half and the game would go to the seventh with Roanoke trailing 6-2.
- Owen Lawn drew a one-out walk. Jonny Wall and Mason Staz singled to load the bases. A Bonzon sacrifice fly followed by a Butler base hit and Greensboro error would bring three runs home as Roanoke began to cut into the deficit.
- One inning later the Maroons completed the comeback when Ty Staz singled to plate PK Cocolis and then score on a Hunter Andrews base hit. Roanoke would take the 7-6 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
- Greensboro got a runner aboard and with a stolen base, the tying run was in scoring position. Aiden Kuhle sealed the win with a strikeout to close out the 7-6 win.
- Kuhle got the win, going 3.1 innings of no-hit work, while recording four strikeouts in relief. Butler was 2-2 with seven other Roanoke hitters registering one hit apiece. Andrews was 1-1 with the game winning RBI.
Up next: Roanoke is scheduled to host Pfeiffer tomorrow afternoon. The game with the Falcons is scheduled to start at 4:00pm and will be played at Calfee Park in Pulaski.
