McGuire, who completed his fifth year as skipper of the Maroons, led Roanoke to its most successful season in the program's short history in 2017. RC won its first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship in May and then went on to capture the NCAA South Region Championship, punching its ticket to the Division III College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Roanoke won a pair of games at the CWS to finish as one of the final four teams remaining in the eight-team field. RC won 35 games in 2017 which is tied for third-most in the 40-year history of the ODAC. For their efforts, the Maroons were ranked No. 3 in the nation in the final D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, while McGuire was named the NCAA Division III South Region Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

In 2016, the Maroons recorded a then program-best 23 wins, breaking the previous mark of 18 set in 2013. Roanoke finished with a 23-17 record, giving RC its first-ever back-to-back winning seasons. 

In 2015, McGuire guided the Maroons to a 17-15 record, which was the first winning record in the program history. In addition, RC broke the school-record for most conference wins in the ODAC (11) and captured the first winning conference record in the program’s history (17-15). The Maroons won their first ODAC tournament game in the program’s history against Eastern Mennonite and was seeded fifth in the ODAC tournament after being selected to finish sixth in the ODAC preseason rankings. 

At the conclusion of the season a program-best five All-ODAC selections, including Will Black (First Team), Cal Hodgert, Will Decker (Second Team) and Chad Hill and Brian Kluge (Third Team). 
 
McGuire finished his second season as head coach of the Maroons with a 16-win season, which was the second most in a season, matching the 2004 and 2012 teams. McGuire had three All-Conference players in Cameron Holshouser, Will Black, and Will Decker.  After Roanoke's performance in McGuire's first season, Roanoke earned its highest ODAC preseason ranking, picked sixth in the 2014 poll.
 
In McGuire's first year at the helm of the Maroon baseball program, Roanoke tallied a school-record 18 wins, as well as a then-record 10 ODAC victories. The squad closed out the regular season with six wins in the last seven games, securing a 10-10 mark in the ODAC.  With that conference record, the Maroons were able to earn the sixth seed in the Roanoke's first ODAC Baseball Tournament since the 2004 season.  He also coached two All-ODAC performers in Austin Gregory (Second Team) and Mark Manthe (Third Team).
 
Before coming to Roanoke, McGuire earned his stripes with several assistant coaching stints.  He returns to the Roanoke Valley after a year at ODAC-rival Randolph-Macon College and a three-year post at nearby Ferrum College. During the 2007-08 season, McGuire served as an assistant at Tennessee Wesleyan College (NAIA). The Bulldogs won the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular-season and tournament championship. He helped TWC to a #9 final ranking and a 44-15 record.
 
In 2006-07, McGuire joined his collegiate coach, Marlin Ikenberry, at Division I Virginia Military Institute.  The Keydets posted their first wins over ranked opponents that season, defeating No. 3 Virginia and No. 10 Auburn.  VMI set the school-record for wins that year. In addition to the wins over the Cavaliers and the Tigers, the Keydets defeated the University of Florida.
 
Prior to entering the collegiate coaching ranks, McGuire coached at his alma mater, William Byrd for three seasons.  He helped the Terriers to a 2004 district title and coached six players who went on to play at the collegiate level.
 
McGuire earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 2003 from the College of William & Mary, where he played baseball for the Tribe. An infielder, McGuire was team captain of the Tribe in 2002 and the W&M squad that captured the programs' first CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA Clemson Regional in 2001.  McGuire played with current major-league pitchers Chris Ray and Bill Bray and helped the Tribe win 32 games in 2000 and 35 in 2001.
 
A Vinton, VA native, McGuire was a standout at William Byrd High School, where he still holds several career offensive records.  He was a member of the 1997 VHSL Group AA State Championship team.  McGuire led the Terriers to four-straight district championships (1996-99) and two regional championships (1996-97).
 
McGuire resides in Roanoke with his wife, Lauren, their son, Tate and daughter Ava.
