#16 Maroons Win Seventh Straight, Defeat Bridgewater 22-3
BRIDGWATER - Less than 24 hours after defeating #3 Stevenson University, the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team won over Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent Bridgewater College, 22-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons now have a record of 10-3, 6-0 ODAC while the Eagles now hold a mark of 3-8; 0-6in the ODAC.

Richard Lachlan opened the scoring in the game with a goal assisted by Will Pilat in the first 16 seconds of the first quarter. The Eagles answered two goals of their own from Joshua Frey and Derrick Daniels, taking Bridgewater's only lead of the contest.

Will Pilat started a 15-0 scoring streak for the Maroons, scoring a man-up goal, assisted by Mike Hayden. Through the end of the first quarter, Seth Fortmann, Charlie Shugrue, Mike Hayden, Tyler Cockey and Lachlan would all find the back of the net as the Maroons had a 8-2 lead. During the second quarter, Roanoke continued to hold of the Eagles, keeping them scoreless in the period. Clark Lewis tacked on an unassisted goal to start the quarter, followed by goals from Hayden, Tyler McWilliams, Colin Rossano and Pilat. Through the first 30 minutes, Roanoke had built a 13-2 lead.

In the second half, the scoring continued to come for the Maroons, as Brayden Gerrie found the back of the net in just the first nine seconds. Pilat and Lachlan scored one more each before Bridgewater tallied its third goal, as Rob Simmons put one between the pipes to stop the Maroon run, and make the score 16-3. To end the third quarter, Chad Smith and Rossano scored for Roanoke, upping Roanoke's lead to 15, 18-3.

Roanoke scored just four goals in the fourth quarter, as Nick Wolf, Shugrue, Josh Sibio and Rossano all had successful tries at the net, ending the contest with a 22-3 victory over ODAC opponent Bridgewater College.

Three different Roanoke players finished with three goals apiece. Richard Lachlan, Will Pilat and Colin Rossano each tallied the three goals, while Pilat finished with two assists to his credit as well. Mike Hayden led all players in assists with three. Brayden Gerrie topped the Maroons in ground balls, picking up seven, while Tyler McWilliams and Jeff Dube had five each. Charles Pease was credited with the victory, as he played just 15 minutes in goal, allowing two, and making one save. Mike Hardon also spent 30 minutes between the pipes and made a team high four saves.

For the Eagles, Derrick Daniels, Joshua Frey and Rob Simmons all found the back of the net with one goal each. Of the two assists on the day from Bridgewater, Daniels and Kameron Reppe had one apiece. Andrew Buss was tabbed with the loss, giving up 17 goals in 42:37 minutes of work, while also making 15 saves on the afternoon.

The Maroons led in nearly every statistical category, including shots (58-18), clears (19-15), extra-man opportunities (3-0), face-offs (15-13) and ground balls (41-12).

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, April 13th as they play host to Hampden-Sydney College at Kerr Stadium. Roanoke hosts the Tigers, who received votes in the latest USILA poll. The game will also serve as Alumni Weekend and the 1983 Men's Lacrosse team will be recognized during the game. The contest is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
