The Lead: Roanoke used 11 second-half goals to knock off Kenyon 15-11 in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon in Salem.
How it Happened
- Kenyon led 2-0 with 5:51 left in the first quarter when Braedan Allen scored to make it 2-1.
- Cole Boggio then set up Jason Sarro for a goal with 3:34 left in the period.
- A Weston Powell unassisted goal with 1:25 to play in the first made it a 3-2 game.
- Following a Grant Webster score at the 11:30 mark of the second quarter to tie the game at 3-3, Kenyon got back-to-back goals to take a 5-3 advantage with just under 10 minutes to go in the half.
- Sarro scored with 2:23 left in the half before Sam Humphrey struck for Kenyon with six seconds remaining to send the teams to the locker room with the Lords up 6-4.
- With Keyon leading 7-5 with 13:40 to play in the third quarter, RC got back-to-back goals to tie the game at 7-7.
- Following a Mike Matteo goal put Kenyon up 8-7 with 6:06 to play, RC went on a 3-0 run which included goals by Anthony Beccaria and Parker Gann 11 seconds apart and another Beccaria strike at the 2:53 mark to make it 10-8 Maroons.
- Kenyon tallied a man-up goal with 1:56 to play to make it 10-9 but Beccaria responded 39 seconds later with a goal to push RC's lead to 11-9.
- A man-up goal by Sarro to open the fourth quarter scoring gave RC a three-goal lead, but Kenyon would score back-to-back goals in less than a minute to make it 12-11 with 9:59 to play.
- The score stayed that way until Beccaria scored at the at the 6:44 mark. Griffin Buck then scored 14 seconds later to put RC in front 14-11.
- Beccaria finished with four goals for RC. Sarro had three goals and two assists. Cole Marini had seven groundballs to go along with three caused turnovers. Gann won 14 face-offs and Matt Federau had 11 saves in the cage.
- RC held a 47-43 edge in shots and Kenyon led 31-29 in groundballs.
