The Lead: Christopher Newport came into the matchup with Roanoke looking to remain perfect on the young season with the Maroons hoping to get off to a 2-0 start. The visitors would open the scoring with four unanswered goals as they took a 4-0 lead after the opening quarter. The Maroon deficit would grow to double digits late in the game as CNU recorded the 17-6 win.
How it Happened:
- The visitors would see Brady Altobello net three straight to open the contest.
- With 6:38 remaining before the half, Luca Docking got Roanoke on the board. George Gilbert would score five minutes later but the Maroons trailed 7-2 at the break.
- A pair of third period scores would keep Roanoke in striking distance but the captains would put the game away with five straight tallies to start the final frame.
- Ethan Caldwell led Roanoke with a pair of goals while Luke Kammerman added two assists. Austin Gambino won nine more face offs giving him 34 in the first two games of the season.
- In goal, Matt Federau recorded 18 saves as Roanoke was out-shot 35-18 on the afternoon. Griffin Buck and Federau each picked up four graound balls with RT Williamson causing a pair of turnovers.
