Roanoke tops Guilford, 2-1 in Home Regular Season Finale

Salem, Va. --- Roanoke College defeated Guilford, 2-1 in overtime at Kerr Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Maroons improved to 11-3-1 overall and a 7-1 mark in the ODAC while the Quakers dropped to 4-10-1 with a 3-4-1 ODAC record.

Taylor Johnston got the Maroons on the board as Shaman Douglass forced the goalkeeper toward him then crossed over to him as he had an easy shot in an open net to make it 1-0.
The Quakers responded in the second half with a pass from Scott Meguid to Jordan Alexander to score from six yards out. Both teams battled defensively and forced the second overtime match of the season for the Maroons.
The Guilford goal ended Roanoke's consecutive shutout streak at five, tying the 1968 and 1993 teams for second-all-time. They were one short of tying the school-record held by the 1984 team.
With less than 20-seconds remaining in the second overtime, Chris Collins took a shot from the top of the 18' to give the Maroons the victory and his first career game-winner.
Roanoke outshot Guilford 23-3 in addition to an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Adam Thompson tallied his 32nd save of the season. Peter Truitt took the loss for the Quakers with 11 saves on the evening.
The men are ranked 7th in the South Region poll for the second-straight week and are ranked in the top-50 nationally in team goals against average (6th), shutout percentage (7th), save percentage (35th), and win percentage (50th). Thompson is ranked sixth in goals against average and leads the ODAC in shutouts (8).
The men will travel to Lynchburg College on Saturday in ODAC action. The match will determine a possible top-seed in the ODAC Tournament starting next weekend. Both teams are currently ranked in the top-10 in the NSCAA South Region. The Maroons are 34-14-4 all-time in the series against the Hornets. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
