Roanoke Battles Lynchburg to 1-1 tie

Lynchburg, Va. --- Lynchburg scored with just over six minutes remaining in regulation as Roanoke settled for a 1-1 tie at Schellenberger Field Saturday evening. The Maroons, who are 11-3-2, 7-1-1 in the ODAC, currently sit atop the ODAC standings. Both teams are ranked in the NSCAA South Region Poll.

Roanoke scored midway through the second half as Shaman Douglass' cross found an open Chris Collins in the box as he found the back of the net to give them a 1-0 lead. Collins led Roanoke with five shots, four on goal.

Donald Hart III'sheaderposted the tying goal with less than six minutes in regulation off a Jared Melot cross. Lynchburg had several chances to score in the final minute, including a Matt Dunnum header on an open net but Michael Stark was there to head it out and forced overtime.

Adam Thompson and Matt Sturdivant each had six saves in goal for their respective teams. Roanoke was outshot, 19-15 as the Hornets held a slim, 6-5 advantage on corner kicks.

The men travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to battle Bridgewater in the final match of the season on Tuesday. With the win, the Maroons can clinch a #1 seed in the ODAC Tournament. The Maroons are 16-1 all-time against the Eagles. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
