Men's Soccer - 6-3-1

The men's soccer team is 6-3-1 this fall. They went 1-1 this past week with a 2-1 defeat vs. Randolph-Macon and a 1-0 win against Salisbury. Salisbury was ranked 18th going into the game and it was the first win for the Maroons since 1997.
The Maroon's are led by their senior leadership. Senior Michael Rouhana is tied for 10th in the ODAC in shots and shots per game. Senior Shaman Douglass is 8th in the ODAC in points, points per game, goals, and 9th in goals per game.
Senior captain Michael Walter is leading the ODAC with three game winning goals. Finally, the senior goalie Adam Thompson is in the top five of the ODAC standings in goals against average, save percentage, and shutouts. In the NCAA Division III rankings he is 18th out of 300 ranked players in goals against average (.498 actual) and 90th in save percentage.
The Maroons next game is at home against Emory and Henry (Oct. 7) and then at Stevenson Oct. 11th.
Women's Soccer - 5-5-1
The women's soccer team is 5-5-1 this fall. They are 3-2 in the ODAC. In the Maroon's last game, they were defeated 3-0 by Virginia Wesleyan. Sophomore Lindsey Kooiman was a spotlight however with six saves on the game. She is also a leader for the team in goal by being in the top 10 in every category for a goalie in the ODAC. Also this season in the ODAC, senior Kristen McCoy is 7th in shots and 8th in shots per game. Senior Meredith Grunewald continues to be a force for the Maroon's and currently is in the top 10 in 5 categories in the ODAC.
The Maroons will play at home against Lynchburg on Oct.7 and Mary Washington Oct. 11.
Volleyball - 14-3
The Maroon volleyball team split two games this past week. They were defeated in four games on the road at Virginia Wesleyan but quickly rebounded with a win against North Greenville in a tri-match. In this record setting season the Maroon's are led in almost every category in the ODAC by a different player. Senior Marcy Conner is 5th in the ODAC in hitting percentage. Sophomore Maggie Wagner is 5th kills. Freshman Kate Feldman is 3rd in the ODAC in assists. Junior Caitlin Long is 6th in service aces and digs in the ODAC.
The women host Meredith on Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Emory and Henry on Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. They will travel to Washington D.C. for a double header against Stevenson and Catholic.
Field Hockey - 1-9
The Maroons had another tough defeat this week against Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 on Oct. 4th. In this game Freshman Alex Broadbent scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke. The freshman goalie Cristina Scichilone has been a bright spot by being in the top 10 in most categories for goal keepers.
The Maroons will host Washington and Lee on Oct. 9th and Wesley on Oct. 11th.
Cross Country
The women had five runners finish in the top 20 in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. They were led by Jennifer Doughman (20:15). Once again Erin Gollery finished second for the Maroon's team and was in 12th place in the meet with a time of (20:23). The other three runners in the top 20 were Liz Mumaw (20:24), Maggie Moore (20:28), and Emily Gallagher (20:59).
Ian Robinson, the ODAC Runner of the Week last week finished as the highest NCAA Div. III runner in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational with a time of 26:50. Alex Knutsen finished a mere second behind him with a time of 26:51. Other notable finishes this week were Dana Mueller (27:29) and Greg Hanlon (28:06).
The Maroons next meet will be the Appalachian State Invitational on Oct. 17th.
