Roanoke gets historic win over #18 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - Roanoke Men's Soccer scored early and held on to defeat #18 Salisbury, 1-0 at the Salisbury Soccer Complex this afternoon. It was the Maroons first win in the series since 1997 as they are now 4-5 against the Sea Gulls.
Roanoke (6-3-1), ranked eighth in the South Region, registered the games' only score 16 minutes into the first period as Shaman Douglass deflected a Michael Rouhana shot from the right side. Douglass' shot bounced off the right hand of Sea Gull goalie Joshua Scotton and into the back of the net. It was Douglass' team-leading fifth goal of the season.
The Sea Gulls (8-3-1) were led by junior midfielder Kyle Sterling who provided four shots on the day, one on goal. Scotton, a junior, made his first collegiate start for SU and registered eight saves. Roanoke goalie Adam Thompson tallied three saves for his fourth shutout effort of the season.
This is the third loss in a row for the Sea Gulls who are 0-3-1 in the past four contests. Salisbury is ranked third in the region.
