Maroons claim 1-0 win over Washington & Lee

Salem, Va. --- The Roanoke College men's soccer team defeated Washington & Lee, 1-0 in ODAC action this afternoon. The men improved its record to 5-2-1, 2-0 in the ODAC while the Generals dropped to 4-5-1, 0-2-1 in the conference. The Maroons are now 19-11-3 in the series vs. W&L.
Before the match, eight seniors were honored for their contributions to the Roanoke soccer program over the last four years. Matt Brown, Shaman Douglass, Alan Grzenda, Jon Murrill, Michael Rouhana, Adam Thompson, Michael Walter and Nate Wilson were the players honored. They currently have a record of 33-25-3 including a 20-8 mark in the ODAC. Last season, they won the ODAC Championship and hosted an NCAA Tournament game.
Walter gave the Maroons a lift early in the second half as he scored off an 18-yard shot in the top left corner to give Roanoke the lead and the win. It was his third game-winner of the season.
The Maroons outshot the Generals, 17-2 with a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Thompson had his fourth shutout victory of the season. Alex Lambert took the loss for W&L with two saves on the afternoon.
The men return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1 as they host Randolph-Macon in ODAC action. The Maroons are currently 14-11-4 all-time vs. the Yellow Jackets, including last year's ODAC Tournament win on penalty kicks. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
