Game Notes vs. Virginia Wesleyan ? ODAC Championship

The Maroons are currently 14-19-1 all-time against the Marlins. Since dropping a 2-1 overtime decision in the 2006 ODAC Semifinals, Roanoke has won the last three meetings, including last year's 2-1 double-overtime win in the ODAC Semis. They defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 3-1 earlier this season. In the ODAC Tournament, Roanoke is 1-4 against VWC in the ODAC Championship, but 5-4 overall in the ODAC Tournament. Neither team has scored more than four goals in the series.
Last Meeting
Virginia Beach, Va. --- Shaman Douglass had his second multi-goal match of the season in a 3-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the Maroons ODAC-opener this evening. The men improved to 4-1-1 on the season with a 1-0 mark in the ODAC.
Michael Rouhana set the tone early as he scored with just under two minutes into the match off an assist from Taylor Johnston to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead.
Then Douglass got into the act as Kayvon Sarmadi found him off a breakaway to score his first goal of the evening to give the Maroons a 2-0 advantage with 22 minutes remaining in the second half for the eventual game-winner. Seven minutes later, he scored off a penalty kick to propel the Maroons to a 3-0 lead.
The Marlins got on the board with just over three minutes remaining as Mark Stringer found the back of the net to give the final result.
The Marlins outshot the Roanoke, 12-10 as the Maroons won, 7-2 on corner kicks. Adam Thompson finished the night with seven saves. Ryan Zmuda had three saves for VWC.
Collins Named ODAC Player of the Week
Collins, a junior from Vinton, Virginia, helped the Maroons to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Bridgewater (9-1)in the regular season finale and a 4-0 win over Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Quarterfinals. The post-season win avenged a 2-1 loss suffered earlier this season to the Yellow Jackets.
The transfer from Carson-Newman scored four goals with back-to-back multi goal games (2 each) in addition to an assist last week. In his 10 shots last week, nine were on goal for a .900 shots on goal percentage. Had a game-winner in the ODAC Quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon. Also scored the final goal off a penalty kick.
Currently, Collins is leading the team in goals (8), points (21), and shots on goal (29). He is second in shots (46) with two game-winners on the season. Over the last seven games, Collins has had eight goals and two assists for 18 points, which makes up the majority of his scoring this season. He has also totaled 29 shots, 24 on goal with both of his game-winners during that span.
Allison Approaching Several Milestones with Win Tomorrow
With a win over Virginia Wesleyan tonight, Head Coach Scott Allison will win his 260th career match at Roanoke. He will also have his eighth ODAC Title, fifth since 2001. Allison is in his 23rd season and is among the top-50 in career wins in NCAA Div. III history.
Maroons in the ODAC Tournament
Roanoke is 20-12 all-time in the ODAC Tournament since 1990. The Maroons have won at least 14 games for only the sixth time in the 62-year history of the program. Since 2001, they are 13-3 in the ODAC Tournament. They are 6-2 in ODAC Championship games.
