Maroons Defeat Saints 2-0 in First Game of Lynchburg Invitational
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Roanoke College men's soccer team defeated Marymount in the first game of the Lynchburg Invitational on Saturday, 2-0. The Maroons now have a record of 3-0, while the Saints have a mark of 0-3.

The Maroons put in the early goal at the 14:16 mark in the first half, as Robbie Lentine scored off of a pass from Patrick Bain, giving the Maroons the 1-0 lead. Roanoke scored its second goal with 17 minutes to play in the contest. Tyler Carbaugh found the back of the net after being dished the ball from Mark Dinkel. On the play, Tyler Carbaugh earned his fourth point of the season, while Mark Dinkel picked up his second assist. The Maroons held off the Saints for the rest of the game, earning the 2-0 victory.


The Maroons outshot the Saints 21-4 in the Saturday afternoon contest. Mark Dinkel led the team in shots with four, while Tyler Carbaugh and Garrett Eldridge had three each. Will Dooley played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied one save.

Marymount was led in shots by Carlos Sanchez who had two, followed by Jorge Alvarado and Yanick Tomas with one each. Kurt Michaels also played all 90 minutes in the net, giving up two goals and making eight saves.

The Maroons return to action on Sunday, September 8th as they take on John Carroll University in their second game of the Lynchburg College Invitational. That contest is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
