Men's Soccer Wins Wild Match Over Randolph-Macon, 5-4
ASHLAND – The Roanoke College men's soccer team went down early to Randolph-Macon Saturday, trailing 3-1 in the first 15 minutes, but the Maroons rallied to earn the 5-4 victory in ODAC play. The Maroons now sit with a mark of 5-0; 1-0 in the ODAC, while the Yellow Jackets are 2-3; 0-1 in ODAC play.

The game started out fast and furious as Randolph-Macon's Brock Barbeau scored a goal in the first 50 seconds off of a pass from David Sullivan. The Yellow Jackets were able to find the back of the net again in the third minute as Jack Maxey scored an unassisted goal. In just three minutes, Randolph-Macon had built a 2-0 lead. Brian White cut the deficit in half at the nine minute mark after taking on a pass from Tyler Carbaugh, and placing it past the keeper.

The Yellow Jackets struck again in the 11th minute, when Sam Bowen tallied an unassisted goal and put Randolph-Macon up 3-1. Just 21 minutes into the contest the fifth goal was scored, this time for Roanoke as White received the feed from Carbaugh for a second time, scoring his second goal of the game. After the first 45, Randolph-Macon held a 3-2 lead.

In the second half, Roanoke came out striking. Just three minutes into the second half, Garrett Eldridge scored to tie the game at 3-3. Randolph-Macon tallied another goal in the 54th minute as Andrew Oakes picked up his first goal of the game, reclaiming a 4-3 lead for the Yellow Jackets.

Just four minutes later, Marc Dinkel scored for the Maroons off of a pass from Patrick Bain, tying the game at 4-4. In the 88th minute, Roanoke put an end to the high scoring affair after Tyler Carbaugh scored the game winner off a pass from Garrett Eldridge. The Maroons picked up the 5-4 victory in a wild match.

Brian White led the team with two goals, while Tyler Carbaugh had a team high two assists. Will Dooley played all 90 minutes between the posts, tallying three saves.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, September 21st as they take on non-conference opponent Christopher Newport University. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
