Men's Soccer Closes Regular Season with 2-1 Loss To Lynchburg
SALEM – The Roanoke College men's soccer team battled to a 2-1 double overtime loss to Lynchburg College on Tuesday evening in the team's regular season finale.  The Maroons enter the ODAC Tournament with a record of 9-6-2; 5-4-2 in ODAC play, while the Hornets sit with a mark of 10-5-2; 8-2-1 ODAC.

Despite the loss on Tuesday, the Maroons still hold a 36-21-6 all-time record against the Hornets.  On Saturday, the men will enter the ODAC Quarterfinals, where Roanoke has gone 6-3-1 in the last 10 years, with the tie resulting in a contest that went to penalty kicks.

The Hornets struck first in the contest as Richard Cann Perez received a pass from Michale Vinegas in the 26th minute and converted it into the first goal of the game.  It took 42 minutes before Roanoke scored the equalizer against Lynchburg.  Christopher Fisher set up a nice lob to Jackson Goyette, who headed it into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 22 minutes to play in regulation.  Goyette's goal marks his third of the season, as he now has seven points this year.

The 1-1 tie would hold through the end of the first 90 minutes of play, as well as a first overtime period.  It wasn't until there were three minutes left to play in the contest when the Hornets scored.  Coming off of a pass from Cory Budka, Michael Vinegas sent a ball towards the goal, where a third player faked a header allowing Vinegas' ball to sail into the goal for the game winner.

The Maroons outshot Lynchburg 15-12 in the contest.  Tyler Carbaugh led the team with three shots, followed by Mark Strelow, Dionys Beck, Brian White and Jackson Goyette with two shots each.  Cole Sinclair, who played all 107 minutes in goal, tallied four saves on the evening.

The Maroons will return to action on November 2nd as they play in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.  The Maroons look to be sitting in the #6 seed, and must wait for the conclusion of the Virginia Wesleyan/Randolph-Macon game to see whom and where they will play on Saturday.  For more information on the ODAC Tournament, go to http://www.odaconline.com.
