RC Men's Soccer Alumni Gather in Salem During Alumni Weekend

SALEM, Va. -- Over 40 Roanoke College Men's Soccer Alumni returned to campus the on April 8 to take part in an alumni match and honor several former players.
 
Prior to the match, men's soccer alumni Donny Smith and Chris Keating were inducted into the Roanoke Athletics Hall of Fame
 
Before kickoff, players and alumni recognized Don D'Agonsistino a star defender from 1953-1957 for his contributions to the program. He was honored by his former teammate Norm Uhl, through his generosity named the #22 locker in RC's new men's soccer locker room in the soon to be open Cregger Center after D'Agonsistino.
 
Jackson Goyette opened the scoring 6 mins into the contest for the current Maroons
 
Graduating senior Tyler Carbaugh tied it up for the alumni at one 6 mins later off a feed from Marc Dinkel.
 
The current team went back on top just under a minute later when Eli Betz scored to put the Maroons back up.
 
Alumni Michael Walter tied the game at 2 with 10:13 left to play in the first half.
 
Just before half rising junior Brandon Bauer put the current team in the lead for good, making the score 3-2 heading into halftime.
 
January transfer Benji Pullen snapped home a header to add to the current teams lead 10 minutes into the second half making the score 4-2. 
 
With scoring opportunities coming quickly as the game entered its final stages, the goalkeepers for each side made some impressive saves down the stretch. Rising junior Nick Tadros was in goal for the current squad while goalkeeping coach Chris Lovatt rolled back the years with a strong performance for the alumni team.
 
Some nice work down the left side from alumni Peyton Lambert caused the current teams back line issues, resulting in an own goal with 7 minutes left in the match, narrowing the gap to 4-3 in favor of the current team.
 
With the Alumni pushing for the tying goal, the current team scored two goals in the game's final 5 minutes, first a header by rising junior Sam Rauf off a Fortune SibandaCorner kick and then a goal from Fortune Sibanda to extend create the 6-3 lead which held through the final whistle.
