Thornton Scores Twice in RC Soccer's 3-1 Win Over Southern Virginia

The Lead: Roanoke scored three second-half goals to battle back from a halftime deficit and top Southern Virginia 3-1 on Thursday evening.

How it Happened:

  • Despite controlling the flow of the match in the first-half, RC found itself down 1-0 after Cade Low scored for SVU in the 11th minute.
  • RC outshot SVU 13-4 in the first-half, had five corner kicks and forced SVU keeper Kennan Carroll to make six saves in the first 45 minutes.
  • Rob Lentine got the equalizer in the 56th minute when he took a pass from Tyler Carbaugh and scored to knot the match at 1-1.
  • Cole Thornton got the first of his two goals in the 74th minute on an assist from Orestis Ilias and then provided an insurance goal  in the 84th minute.
  • Cole Sinclair made one stop in net for RC as the Maroons outshot SVU 29-8 for the match and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
  • The Maroons have won three straight matches with the victory over SVU.
