The Lead: Virginia Wesleyan got a goal from Robert Holschuh in the 18th minute and was able to withstand constant offensive pressure from Roanoke as the Marlins held on for 1-0 ODAC Men's Soccer win on Saturday.

How it Happened
  • Roanoke had a pair of scoring opportunities at the outset. Cole Thornton had his shot saved by VWC keeper Connor Kirkham and Marshall Hodge had his shot cleared off the goal line by Ricky Perrault.
  • VWC got the only goal of the match when it capitalized on a failed clear by the Maroons and Holschuh collected the ball and scored.
  • The Maroons continued to pressure the VWC defense, getting their best opportunity to score in the 28th minute when Orestis Ilias played give and go with Fortune Sibanda. Ilias took the pass back and rifled a shot in on Kirkham who made a diving save.
  • Roanoke outshot VWC 7-2 in the second-half but Kirkham was able to make three saves and a Rob Lentine shot with just over 10 minutes to play and a Sam Rauf chance with under five minutes to go, both went just over the cross-bar to preserve the Marlin shutout.
  • RC held a 15-7 edge in shots, with the Marlins only able to get off two shots in the second-half, neither of which were on goal.
