SALEM, Va. - The Roanoke men's soccer team officially kicks off the 2016 season with the All Sports Cafe Roanoke Invitational Sept 2-3 at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons will host Messiah Friday, Sept. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and N.C. Wesleyan Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
RC defeated Ferrum on August 24 and Averett on August 30 in their preseason exhibition contests.
The Maroons finished 12-7-1 last season and advanced to the ODAC Tournament semifinals. Fortune Sibanda returns in the midfield for the Maroons after earning First-Team All-ODAC honors last season. Defender Sam Rauf, who earned second-team all-league accolades, is back along with third-team choice Tim Mahabir.
10-time national champion, Messiah finished the 2015 season 14-5-1 after win claiming the MAC Championship title.
N.C. Wesleyan closed last sesaon with a 9-9-1 record after advancing to the USA South semifinals.
