The Lead: Mitchell Williams' golden goal in the 92nd minute lifted Mary Washington to a 2-1 overtime victory over Roanoke on Saturday evening in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • Mary Washington wasted no time getting on the board, scoring just six minutes into the game when a Williams corner kick found the head of Colin Travis for the first goal of the match.
  • RC controlled the pace of play in the second-half, outshooting the Eagles 6-4 and cracking the scoreboard in the 49th minute when a Jon-Cody Mactutus hit a bending shot that hit off the cross-bar and over the goal line to level the game at 1-1.
  • The match stayed that way through the remainder of regulation and into the opening minutes of overtime until following a foul call on RC, Williams was able to bend a perfectly placed shot into the right side of the net for the win.
  • RC held a UMW a 10-8 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Nick Tadros made one save in net for RC, while Matt Spencer stopped three shots.
