The Lead: Roanoke scored three first-half goals as the Maroons topped Southern Virginia 4-0 on Wednesday night in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • The Maroons got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute off Tim Mahabir's serve that was headed home by Marc Hoppler to give RC an 1-0 advantage.
  • Roanoke doubled its advantage in the 32nd minute when Brandon Bauer's corner kick was headed in by Jackson Goyette to make it 2-0.
  • Kelby Zeiger made it 3-0 with less than 10 minutes later when he weaved through the SVU defense and used a shot from just inside the box to beat Knight keeper Colin Flynn.
  • Atticus Cooke capped the scoring when he dribbled through SVU defenders and sent a laser past keeper Spencer Young to make 4-0.
  • RC held a 14-5 edge in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks.
  • Nick Tadros did not have to make a save in net for RC, Flynn and Young each made one save for SVU.
