Hoppler's Early Strike Stands Up in 1-0 Win Over Guilford

The Lead: Marc Hoppler scored  the lone goal of the match just over a minute into the contest as Roanoke topped Guilford 1-0 Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • Following a free kick that was served into the box and batted around, Adam Yesbeck slipped a pass to Hoppler who rifled a shot past Guilford keeper Eric Hayes to make it 1-0, 1:13 into the match.
  • Roanoke controlled the pace of play for the entire half, outshooting GC 6-1 but Hayes made three saves to keep the Quakers deficit to one goal.
  • The Maroons applied constant pressure during the second-half, getting off 11 shots but Hayes made seven saves, including three at point blank range, keeping RC from widening its lead.
  • The Maroons held a 17-7 edge in shots for the game and had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
  • Nick Tadros made four saves in net for RC, while Hayes finished with 10 stops.
